Three steps to a compatible drawing

    Upload a copy

    Choose a DWG or DXF up to 100 MB. Files are sent to NASJI’s server for conversion. Keep your original.

    Choose the receiving release

    Pick the DWG version from the selector. For 2007, 2010 and 2013, read the compatibility note before converting.

    Download, open and verify

    Download the DWG. The adjacent Open in CAD button opens that same converted file. Check a known dimension, units, layers and critical objects.

Choose the recipient’s version, not the filename

A file called “drawing-2024.dwg” does not prove its format. This tool reads the file header, converts supported drawing entities and reports the source release and output format. Ask which CAD release your recipient actually uses before choosing a target.

One DWG format can cover several AutoCAD releases

The software year and the drawing format year are different. AutoCAD 2018–2026 uses the 2018 DWG family. Sending a 2024 drawing to AutoCAD 2018 may need no format change; sending it to AutoCAD 2010 needs an older encoding.

Check the drawing, not just whether it opens

Compare model geometry, dimensions, units, text, blocks and layers. A successful conversion is not a guarantee that custom objects, 3D solids, external references or paper-space layouts survived. Keep the original and check any skipped-entity warning.

Try a known drawing before your project

DWG version conversion questions

Is the converter free?

Yes. File conversion and manual CAD editing are free without an account. AI drafting is a separate optional paid feature, with two free generated files on the AI CAD page.

Can I convert on a Mac or Ubuntu?

Yes. The converter works through a modern browser on Windows, macOS and Linux. No AutoCAD installation is required.

Will it preserve every object?

No converter should be assumed to preserve every application-specific feature. NASJI converts supported entities and reports skipped types when available. Compare the output with the original, including layouts, linked files, fonts and any specialist objects.

Can changing .dwg to another extension fix the version?

No. Renaming changes the filename, not the DWG encoding. Use a real conversion and verify the resulting file.
