About this block
A north point in its plainest useful form: a dart with a broad triangular head and a long tail, split down the axis so that the right half is solid and the left half is left open. Seven lines set out the outline and two hatches fill the shaded half, all inside a single block standing 3 by 5 units. There is no lettering, no surrounding circle and no decorative rose, which is exactly why the symbol still holds together when a plan is plotted small.
Drop it on site plans, landscape layouts and floor plans, near the title panel or in a corner of the sheet, and rotate it so the head points at true north rather than at your grid north. Scale it so the symbol prints around 20 to 25 mm tall whatever the drawing scale, and keep it on the annotation layer beside the scale bar and the key. Snapping the tail tip to a grid line before you rotate saves nudging it back into place afterwards.
