About this block

Filed with the aeroplanes but drawn as a helicopter: 1,243 lines and 8 arcs in a block named 02PAIR09, easily the most detailed aircraft in this category. Six main rotor blades radiate from a hub drawn with its control linkage, the cabin roof is stepped and glazed, stub sponsons sit each side above the wheels, and a long tail boom carries a fin and a tail rotor. The definition spans 629 by 436 inches, about 16.0 by 11.1 m, inserted at sixteen-thousandths scale.

Rooftop helipads, hospital emergency landing areas and estate plans all need a machine drawn from above, because it is the rotor disc and not the fuselage that fixes the touchdown and manoeuvring clearances. Draw your landing circle first, then centre the rotor hub on it.
